The Appeartex surface functions as a flypaper for bacteria by collecting them on
the Appeartex-modified surface where the bacteria get stuck because of electrostatic
attraction. The negative charge of bacteria causes them to be drawn to and get
trapped on the positive charge of the Appeartex modification, just as iron chips are drawn
to a magnet. The bacteria are thereby stuck on the Appeartex surface and are held there by
the permanent Appeartex charge on the surface. The entrapment of the bacteria also renders
them incapable of multiplying.
Since the bacteria cannot escape the surface, they are unable to spread to or
contaminate the surroundings. In this way, the bacteria are controlled by charge and we do
not have to use bad chemicals or antibiotics that may cause the bacteria to develop
resistance besides polluting the environment. |
